Researching A Niche
Finding a hot niche is not really a secret, it’s just a bunch of work. Simple as that. Learning the how’s, what’s, where’s and why’s will help you narrow down your search to a potential money making niche.
I will go over a few tools I as well as many others use to narrow our focus. All of these tools are online and are free to use. There is always paid options out there, sometimes they are worth it and other times they are not.
While doing all of this research you should keep two term in mind, keywords and key word phrases (also known as long tail keywords). You will want to keep track of the keywords and values such as the number of searches and so forth. You can do this in a spreadsheet or a piece of paper. We will cover all of this so don’t worry.
Let’s start with the first tool, Amazon. Yes Amazon. If you have a niche in mind, head on over to amazon and do a search for books about your subject. Read through the comments people have made. Each item will have a product details section on it’s page. Check out the sales rank. Remember to keep track of the numbers as well as picking out keywords and keyword phrases.
Our next tool is Googles keyword tool. Here we can start plugging in those keywords to find out how popular they are and also come up with other keywords to add to our list. What you will be look at is the average monthly search volumes. Note the keywords which get around 1000 to 1500 searches monthly.
I know what you are thinking, I want 300,000 searches monthly. Well the competition is pretty heavy with those keyword searches and what we are looking for is low hanging fruit. We want a niche that we can begin ranking for on the first pages of search engines in order to get the free traffic.
Another keyword research tool is the free version of Wordtracker. This tool will give you give you the number of searches a month as well as more keyword possibilities.
The final part of this process is to go to Google and do some more work. At this point you will want to enter your keywords one by one into the search field but you will enclose them with quotation marks. So your search will look like “keyword”. Make note of the number of results for each keyword.
All of this research will take some time so go ahead and get started. Take a look at several different niches and keep track of the results. In the next post we will we cover how to get started use all of these numbers together and getting started on a blog.
So What Is Affiliate Marketing Anyways?
Affiliate marketing basically you means you are selling someone else’s product in exchange for commissions on any sales made. Affiliates send visitors to the vendors site using their affiliate link and if a sale is made during that visit or within a certain amount of time from the initial visit, the affiliate receives a commission for their referral.Once your link is clicked, a cookie is set in the visitors browser which allows the vendor to keep track of your referral.
Some of the benefits of affiliate marketing to you are:
You don’t have to create a product.
You don’t have to concern yourself with delivery of the product.
You don’t have to deal with returns.
Where Do I Find Products?
As previously mentioned the big name stores for one.
Other places to look are:
Now be aware, some of these such as cj.com (commission junction) require you to have a website or blog just to sign up.
How much money can I make?
That depends on so many variables it is impossible to answer. There are many people who make their living online. One thing to remember is that this isn’t an over night venture. Choosing the right products, gaining the trust of your readers by providing compelling content, promoting your blog all play a factor and all of this takes time. These things will begin getting you steady traffic and traffic is a bloggers best friend.
So, are you ready to start?
One of the best free ways to start in affiliate marketing and blogging as well is to sign up at blogger.com. If you are not familiar with blogger, I’d suggest you go sign up and start getting a look around. When asked to choose a name, don’t worry, just pick anything you like. Consider this a practice blog.
